THE LEARNING COLLECTIVE
ARTS - LITERACY - NUMERACY - EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE - REVISION COACHING
WHAT WE DO
The Learning Collective was established in January 2016 by Andy and Katie Taylor-Edwards, teachers and school leaders with over 40 years’ of cumulative experience. We are dedicated to providing young people with a diverse range of support for personal, social and academic achievement. Working with schools, charities, communities and parents across the UK, we are committed to providing creative learning opportunities that allow young people to grow in confidence through the discovery and development of their true potential. Our work is predominantly focused on literacy, wellbeing and the arts through 1:1 academic tutoring; coaching and mentoring; emotional and academic support for young people with long term absence from school; youth drama services; and GCSE interventions in schools. We are based in Wrexham, North Wales and work across the UK.
Who we ARE
Katie is a Linguistics graduate from the University of Manchester and she gained her Post-Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) in Secondary English from Manchester Metropolitan University. She has taught in two large secondary schools over 19 years, securing strong grades in KS3 tests, GCSEs and A-levels in both English and English Literature for hundreds of young people across all abilities. Year on year, she achieved 'positive residuals', whereby the performance of her students always compared favourably to their performance in other subjects.
Katie also has experience of teaching Year 2-6 students. Her teaching is lively and aims to engage every child she works with. She thrives on making a difference and is motivated by helping young people grow in confidence and achieve success. She plans for each individual's academic needs by writing personalised programmes of study based around their hobbies and interests, wherever possible. Katie engages her students by making sessions challenging, lively and enjoyable. She loves her subject and she passes her own enthusiasm on to the young people she teaches. Katie plans lessons that cater for different learning styles and she is meticulous her detailed and personal written feedback.
For the past 4 years, Katie has been Co-Director of The Learning Collective Group and is currently working in local schools across the North West with young people in 1:1 and small group settings.
