Welcome to The Learning Collective and thank you for visiting our website.
We are a limited company, based in North Wales, led by Andrew and Katie Taylor-Edwards, two experienced teachers and school leaders with 40 years combined educational experience. We currently offer a wide range of educational services to parents, schools, charities and businesses across the UK.
Our learning and intervention programmes cover a wide range of personal, social and academic skills, including English, Media Literacy, Online Safety, PSHE, Drama, Revision Coaching and Emotional Intelligence.
Katie is a Linguistics graduate from the University of Manchester and gained her Post-Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) in Secondary English from Manchester Metropolitan University.
Katie is currently working on a freelance basis in local schools and with young people in 1:1 and small group settings. She is 100% driven by people, whether it be spending time with family or friends or helping people who need support, practically, emotionally or academically.
Katie has taught in two large secondary schools over 20 years, securing strong grades in KS3 tests, GCSEs and A-levels in both English and English Literature for hundreds of young people across all abilities. Year on year, she has achieved ‘positive residuals’ whereby the performance of her students always compared favourably to their performance in other subjects. She is lucky enough to also have experience in teaching Year 2-6 students. Her teaching is lively and aims to engage every child she works with.
Katie’s approach to tutoring is simple. She thrives on making a difference and she is motivated by helping young people grow in confidence and achieve success. She plans for each individual’s academic needs by writing personalised programmes of study based around their hobbies and interests, wherever possible.
Katie engages students by making sessions challenging, lively and enjoyable. She loves her subject and aims to pass this enthusiasm on to the young people she teaches. Katie takes the fear out of aspects English they have struggled with and she brings clarity to aspects that can bring confusion. She is a perfectionist who loves what she does.
Katie firmly believes that to ensure young people reach their potential, each student must be taught as an individual. In order to do this, she always plans lessons that cater for different learning styles; she is always uncompromising in her belief that all young people can reach their full potential in a secure environment and she is meticulous in her detailed, personal written feedback.
With a proven track record of transformational school leadership, Andy’s expertise has been developed through 18 years experience of teaching Drama, English and Media to 11-18 years olds and leading whole school portfolios in teaching and learning, assessment, staff development and curriculum.
Embracing the challenge of leading a school in difficult circumstances, Andy led a dynamic and vibrant community committed to achieving success for all learners, raising aspirations and learning together in a supportive and orderly environment.
Andy led the school out of special measures and went on to navigate the amalgamation of two local secondary schools and the subsequent conversion to academy status. Simultaneously, Andy led on the design of a £20 million new build project which saw his academy move into an innovative new learning environment in September 2013.
Throughout this period, and with the additional challenges brought by rapid educational reform, Andy’s leadership secured sustainable improvements in the quality of teaching which, in turn, led to significantly improved outcomes for students and a subsequent ‘good’ Ofsted judgement.
Andy is educated to masters degree level and holds a 2:1 degree in Digital Media, Politics and Performing Arts. Prior to entering the teaching profession, Andy gained industry experience with the BBC and Lego UK Ltd.
